At Breakwater Oral Surgery, we are committed to providing you with the highest level of care. Following these pre-operative instructions is essential for ensuring a safe procedure and a smooth recovery. Please read carefully and contact us with any questions before your surgery.

Scheduling & Appointments

Confirm Your Appointment: We’ll provide your surgery date and time in advance. Plan to arrive 15-30 minutes early to check in.
Need to Reschedule? If anything changes, call us as soon as possible.

Health & Medications

Let us know about any recent changes in your health, medications, or allergies.

Some medications, including blood thinners, aspirin, and certain supplements, may need to be stopped before surgery. We’ll give you specific instructions prior to surgery day.

If you take daily medications, like those for blood pressure, we may ask you to take them with only a small sip of water.

Fasting Before Surgery

For procedures that require IV sedation, no food or drinks (including water) for 6–8 hours before surgery unless otherwise instructed.
Diabetic patients: Special instructions may apply—please check with us ahead of time.
Avoid smoking and alcohol for at least 24-48 hours before your procedure.

Pre-Op Hygiene & Clothing

Oral Hygiene: Brush and floss before your appointment, but don’t swallow water or mouthwash if fasting.
What to Wear: Choose loose, comfortable clothing with short sleeves. Avoid jewelry, nail polish, and heavy makeup.

Transportation & Support

You’ll Need a Ride Home: A responsible adult must drive you home after surgery.
Plan for Rest: Someone should stay with you for at least 24 hours to assist as needed.

Special Instructions

Depending on the type of surgery, you may have additional pre-op steps, such as:

Prescription rinses (e.g., antibacterial mouthwash)
Pre-surgery medications (if prescribed)

We’ll go over any specific requirements with you ahead of time.

Consent Forms & Paperwork

Bring any required forms, including consent paperwork and insurance details.
Have your ID ready for check-in.
